This project entailed creating a three part poster series for an upcoming poetry event. Out of the poetry events given to choose from, the series "Altered Earth" stood out for it's visual potential in it's themes. Altered Earth is a series that brings poets together who often write of environmental justice and connecting with the Earth around them.

Typographic and Texture Exploration
With this project the goal was to make the design process more about physical manipulation rather than digital. The text in the photos below, some of which was used in the final series, were soaked in oil and water, burnt, put behind glass and buried in the ground. This was all in search for an interesting texture to include in the series.
Black and White Poster Iterations
The series needed to feel simple and easily readable, but at the same time get the message of the poetry series across. Through the imagery and overall feel of the pieces the roughness and grit of the subject matter comes through to the viewer.
Color Poster Iterations
When choosing a color palette for this poster series the colors of the text had to jump out of the background making them easy to read and eye catching to any viewer passing by the poster.
Final Series
In the end, these posters are more of an exploration in how "altering" the text and the way the type presents itself affects the message rather than altering the environment around it. The posters' colors catch the eye and clearly communicate the information that needs to be conveyed.
